If you visit Texas, you must eat barbecue. And if you visit Austin, Texas, be sure to eat at The Salt Lick in nearby Driftwood, Texas.

Thurman Howard started smoking meats in a stone bricked pit in 1967. Today, The Salt Lick is one of the largest barbecues in Texas with two dining buildings each with their own pit inside the front door.

They serve four smoked meats deliciously prepared in the pits: Pork ribs, beef brisket, turkey and sausage. Don't ask for sauce, that would be sacrilegious.

Be sure to visit the wine cellar for wine tasting.
