"Heie", short for Heinrich, Simonsen is an artist painter of landscapes relating to his boyhood home of the north Frisian Islands of northern Germany.
Heie, lives with his lovely wife, Ruth, along the Indian River Lagoon in Titusville. Heie and Ruth have been married 51 years. They enjoy the company of their children and grandchildren who also live in the area.
Heie was born in 1932, on the North Frisian Island of Wyk Auf Foehr. Many of his family were painters and Heie began painting as a child.
When he was 14 years old, he attended school in Hamburg, Germany and studied painting as an art and trade. In 1953, at the age of 21, Heie emigrated to the U.S. and lived with his aunt in the town of Titusville, Florida.
He moved to Long Island New York to become a skilled tradesman in commercial painting. While living in New York, Heie established a delicatessen.
In 1961, Heie met his wife, Ruth, at a neighborhood German club. They married and celebrate 51 years together.
In 1978, he and Ruth relocated to Titusville, where in 1984, they opened Pumpernickels Delicatessen.
Heie is also a skilled yachtsman. He and Ruth have won many trophies in sailing competition. Together, they have twice sailed transatlantic crossings in their 37 foot yacht "Outward Bound".
Throughout the years, Heie has enjoyed painting landscapes and portraits of his north german and nautical heritage. His artwork decorated not only his home but also his restaurant.
Heie is a Mason, and has painted a large mural, rich in symbolic detail, for his local Masonic Lodge.
Heie celebrates his 81st birthday this week on July 8, 2013.
The Titusville Downtown Gallery will host a wine and art night, July 12th, with "Heie" Heinrich Simonsen as the featured artist.
