Innsbruck is the capitol city of the state of Tyrol in western Austria. The city is nestled in a river valley surrounded by mountain ranges. Established as a crossing point over the river Inns, for the Roman advance into northern Europe in 400 B.C. The city gets its' name from the German words for Inns and bridge. My maternal grandfather was from the Tyrolean village of Innsbruck. In 1964, while living near Salzburg, we attended the 1964 Winter Olympics held in Innsbruck. In 2007, I returned to Innsbruck and the Bavarian villages to the north.
