The northern Withlacoochee is both a blackwater and spring fed river starting in Georgia and flowing through 32 miles into Florida to a confluence with the Suwannee River at Suwannee River State Park and near the city of Live Oak, Florida. The river has two prominent springs running into it, the Madison Blue Spring and the Suwanacoochee. Water levels vary greatly and there are shoals along the river with Melvin falls producing some class 1-2 rapids. The Suwannee River State Park has good camping and among the newest large cabins in the state park system.
