Sea scallops are abundant in the shallow waters along the coast of Florida. The season for harvesting is typically July through mid September.

I hired Captain Harry Arnold for a half day of scalloping of the coast of Homosassa Springs, Florida.

Harry is a native to the area and knows the territorial waters. He took us several miles off shore to a shoal which at low tide was only 4-6 feet deep.

Culinary entertainer, Alton Brown, described scallops in his own way as "the fact that God put this perfect buttery yoyo-shaped muscle right inside this pretty shell is proof he loves us"
