The Rainbow River is a tributary to the Withlacoochee River in central west Florida near the city of Dunellon. The river is fed by numerous springs at it's headwaters in Rainbow Springs State Park. The main spring is a 1st magnitude flow and the 8th largest in the world. The waters are crystal clear for several miles down river from the springs and water depth varies from 2-30 feet. The river bottom is sand with areas of swaying underwater grasses and rock at the fissures. Put-in points for kayaking are at K.P. Hole County Park and Rainbow Springs State Park.
