Ride the newly restored Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway for nine miles from Manitou Springs station to the summit of Pikes Peak, 14,115 feet MSL. The first train summited the mountain in 1891. One-hundred and thirty years later an all new train and track climb the mountain. The highest railway in North America.
With an average grade of 12%, the Pikes Peak Cog Railway climbs on a special track, sometimes hitting a grade of 24%. The train travels through multiple ecological zones on its way to the summit. On a clear day, you can see five different states from the summit, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Kansas. The total duration of the trip is 3 hours and includes 40 minutes at the summit to enjoy snacks, sights and get high on thin air.
